West Yorkshire Combined Authority Away Day

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) visited the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (#3MBIC) today as part of an away day for their staff. Steve Gregory, Head of Regional Engagement at the University of Huddersfield is seen here on the left with Michael Wilson, Centre Manager and HIIP and Technology Director of the 3M BIC welcomed Sue Cooke, Executive Head of Economic Services, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and here team to the Centre. The visitors were able to see and hear about the work of the Centre in supporting student businesses through the Duke of York’s Young Entrepreneurs’ Centre (#DOYYEC) and the comprehensive support activities for regional businesses provided through the BIC’s Business Engagement Centre. Visitors had an opportunity to hear the experiences of two companies based in the Centre, Ocean Spark games, a young games software developer and Ionix AT a more established company which supplies sensors for use in harsh environments. Finally, the visitors had an opportunity to visit the laboratories on Innovation Avenue to see progress in realising the nearly £3M investment from the WYCA in new and exciting technologies at the 3MBIC to encourage innovation, growth and business development within the region.
