Sue became CEO of the 3M BIC in 2019 and brings with her over thirty years’ experience in business support, skills programmes and economic development. Sue also ran her own consultancy business and taught business strategy for several University business schools including Huddersfield, Sheffield and Bradford. Sue’s remit is to lead and develop the 3M BIC as a key player in the regional innovation eco-system.

Michael has been at the 3M BIC since it first opened and has played a pivotal role in the investment of the centre’s pioneering technology. Following a career in chemical and technical roles across the private and public sectors, Michael is responsible for supporting businesses to access the technology housed at the 3M BIC.

Sally has been at the 3M BIC since it first opened its doors and is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the centre and tenant liaison. She has 30 years of customer service experience in the financial and hospitality trade.

Jill knows everything about our tenants, network members and associate businesses. Having joined in 2013, she is responsible for the 3M BIC’s database management, intelligence gathering and 3M BIC Membership.

Janine joined the team in 2017 bringing together the planning, coordination and execution of the Huddersfield Innovation and Incubation Project (HIIP) along with the installation of its associated technologies. She oversees the technical team activities and relevant projects, liaising with stakeholders and being a contact for technical enquiries. She is also a qualified Additive Manufacturing (AM) machinist and X-ray CT trained operator.

A graduate from the University of Huddersfield, Maisie joined the team in 2016 as events and marketing officer. She is responsible for marketing the overall centre, its office and lab spaces and technology, as well as updating the 3M BIC website and managing 3M BIC and associated partner’s social media platforms. It is also her remit to promote events and event spaces within the centre

Jordan joined the team during his placement year at the University of Huddersfield in 2013. He now oversees the centre’s room hire and external and internal events. He is currently undertaking an MA by Research focusing on technology adoption in SMEs and event engagement, due for completion in September 2020.

Emily boasts a PR career that spans over 16 years. Having joined the team in 2012, she provides PR and copywriting services to promote the 3M BIC as a centre for enterprise and innovation for SMEs in the region, as well showcasing the skilled team behind the scenes. She is a CIPR member.

Sophie is the first person that people meet on arrival at the centre. Having been the 3M BIC’s receptionist since 2016, Sophie provides a a comprehensive reception service to tenants, visitors and staff.

Anything finance related is Roo’s core focus at the 3M BIC. She has over 23 years’ experience and splits her time between the 3M BIC and the University of Huddersfield’s finance team. She is ACCA accredited.

Paul is our in-house product designer and has been at the 3M BIC since 2013. He is responsible for the management, consultancy and subsequent production of client work, through our wide range of in-house technology, from 3D prototyping with polymer, resin and metal additive machines, reverse engineering with XCT and 2D visualisations using high performance rendering software.

Steve joined the 3M BIC in 2015, having worked in various roles from programming to systems and network administration. He is responsible for the centre’s day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure, including networks and services, A/V, end-user hardware and software, as well as supporting 3M BIC tenants with their varying and sometimes complex requirements.

Jason has been responsible for maintaining and cleaning the centre, customer service and liaising with staff and tenants since it first opened. He also monitors the centre’s waste and recycling processes, since the introduction of our environmental targets.
A former Design Technology and ICT teacher, Steven joined the team in 2019 to support the work of the design team to ensure smooth transition from design to production and assist with the AM/3D printing machines. Prior to his 29-year teaching career, Steven spent six years in the engineering sector.

Georgina brings with her 25 years’ experience in research and development within industry. Her role is to introduce businesses from a variety of sectors to the wide range of technologies and expertise within the centre. She supports local SMEs by assessing their requirements, exploring the technologies available, as well as potential collaboration with the University of Huddersfield and our supply chain programme, to help develop innovative projects, products and services.

Phil relocated the Enterprise Team (a University of Huddersfield student/graduate service) to the 3M BIC in 2013. The Enterprise Hub supports student and graduate business start-ups. Phil has 20 years’ self-employment experience and 10 years’ in business start-up support. He is in the final third of a PhD, (Doctor of Enterprise) investigating effective start-up support for social enterprises.

Stephen has over 27 years’ experience in industry having headed up the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) Yorkshire. Responsible for business engagement through the Business Growth and Productivity Service at the University of Huddersfield, Stephen maximises his industry and broad business experience, as well as his academic links and connections with support programmes at the LEP and LAs to encourage business growth, particularly across the manufacturing sector.
