Over the last 40 years, Surfachem, a 2M Group company, has been delivering chemistry for a better life. In 1981, it started with a small office and warehouse in the North of England, primarily distributing surfactants. Fast forward to 2021, and it has evolved to become a leading speciality chemicals distributor. From its market expertise to its geographical presence, its growth story is a true attribute to its team.

Surfachem moved to a small laboratory space at the 3M BIC in 2014 and since then has invested in its technical capabilities to meet customers’ needs across a range of industries. Over the last year, its lab team at the 3M BIC has created over 700 formulations and has been recognised for its innovative formulations and concepts via various innovation awards.

The 3M BIC lab team’s key technical innovations for 2021 include:

Water(less) Concept

Fermentation Concept Expansion

In September, the lab team at the 3M BIC moved into a brand-new, larger, formulation laboratory within the centre to allow it to conduct extensive research and development, take on more projects, and support customers, both existing and new.

On 23 September, it held an official opening event, where Surfachem’s CEO and Chairman, Mottie Kessler welcomed guests to not only view the new laboratory, but to also engage with formulation demonstrations within its Personal Care and Home Care laboratories.
