During the day NPL’s laboratories will be open for everyone. It will be an excellent opportunity to meet our partner organisations including, Aberlink and Taylor Hobson who are exhibiting during the day.
Moreover, the event will include many measurement activities and measurement surgeries enabling visitors to discuss any measurement related challenges that they have. Attendees will also have an opportunity to see a demonstration of a low-cost wireless enabled sensor systems used to monitor processes.
Another event held by NPL will be Andy Morris’ Dementia Awareness Talk on 24 May. It is a great opportunity to support Dementia Awareness week and help to make changes happen! Everyone will have a chance to get involved by taking part in bake sales and other interesting activities.
The next Manufacturer Measurement Network (MMN) Event entitled ‘Launch Into Space and Nuclear’ will take place on 17 July. The UK space industry is a success story for manufacturing and an area for potential growth within the UK. Guests will have a chance to hear from Huddersfield-based SME ‘Reliance Precision’ and other speakers about their work in this sector and learn more about how to become involved.
We also have a new exciting initiative where we will be taking ‘Digital Manufacturing’ on the road to Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in September. It will be a perfect opportunity to expand the profile of National Physical Laboratory North of England and Measurement Manufacturer Network.
The last quarterly MMN event at 3M BIC will be held in October. ‘Joy of Engineering’ will engage students from local schools and colleges such as UTC Leeds. In the morning students will have a chance to see NPL’s laboratories and will also take part in exciting interactive measurement activities. The evening part will be devoted for usual networking and speaker presentations for local SMEs and academia. The aim of the event will be to show that engineering is actually fun! The event will involve interesting people passionate about the engineering industry.
