On Friday 1 June the staff at National Physical Laboratory (NPL) North of England took part in an SI training workshop hosted by Michael de Podesta MBE for Services to Science at NPL. The workshop was highly engaging and allowed the team to develop a much clearer understanding about the redefinition of the SI units.
NPL North often attends STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) outreach events involving both local primary and secondary schools and the knowledge gained from the workshop will assist our staff during the different outreach activities and help them explain to the next generation of manufacturers the work NPL does and the importance of the SI unit redefinition.
In addition to the SI training, NPL North has also created an SI-bot worldwide tracker map. Members of the team take a SI-bot away with them on holiday or business trips and are tasked with capturing images to add to the map on their return. Whilst the SI-bot travel scrapbook has only just been introduced, they’ve already seen trips to Scarborough, Ireland, Czechia, Ibiza, Bulgaria and Poland, with many more planned in the coming months!
