We recently welcomed two new team members at the 3M BIC, Jane Turner and Anastasis Constanti.
Jane Turner is a placement student from the University of Huddersfield and joined us recently as our new Events and Marketing Assistant.
The 3M BIC has a longstanding history of placement students with several of our now permanent team members starting out as placement students.
Originally from Sheffield, Jane went to the Sheffield City Campus College to study Hospitality and Events before starting at the University of Huddersfield, where she is currently studying a BA(Hons) in Event Management. Jane loved the sound of the course as it gave her options for modules she wanted to study in greater depth.
Almost a month into her new role, Jane said: “My first impressions of the 3M BIC is that all the staff are nice and friendly and made me feel as though I was one of the team from the get-go. Nothing was too much trouble if I stumbled across a problem. The building is interesting, I’ve never really been in a technology and innovation environment and it’s intriguing to see how all the machinery works and what’s available along Innovation Avenue.”
A music lover, keen baker and walker, Jane hopes to gain hands-on experience to become an events and marketing officer within a company as she loves planning and organising events.
Originally from Cyprus, Anastasis Constanti joins us as our new Product Designer. He came to the University of Huddersfield in 2013 as he was drawn to its facilities and reputation, where he studied a BEng in Mechanical Engineering (1 year in Newcastle for MSc in Mechanical Engineering) and has lived in the town ever since.
Prior to the 3M BIC, Anastasis was a design engineer at FeTu Ltd and was involved in design, testing and research and development. He also has a background in 3D printing as the topic of his MSc dissertation project, as well as a few personal side projects he has been working on.
He says, “I am thrilled to work for 3M BIC. The team is very focused and dedicated to what they do and I am ready to learn and evolve in this organisation. I have a passion for product design, from single parts to large assemblies. With my background in mechanical engineering I hope to bring a good balance of technical and creativity in technology design to the 3M BIC tech team.”
Anastasis’ current work includes the design and rapid prototype build of a product, re-engineered to incorporate two functional operations (2 mechanisms in one solution, as opposed to existing design with 1 mechanism). In addition, using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to study the fluid and flow behaviour inside the newly designed mechanisms.
A cook and exercise and running enthusiast, Anastasis is focused on expanding his knowledge and experience in this field and using his skills to help local enterprises to create and improve their ideas and make a difference to the society.
We hope you will join us in welcoming Jane and Anastasis to our team!
