New outdoor wellbeing area

If you’ve been to the 3M BIC recently, you may have seen a few changes to our outdoor area. We’ve been busy over the last few months creating a new outdoor wellbeing space for 3M BIC staff, businesses, and visitors to enjoy.

With help from students from Kirklees College, we now have two new, large planters in front of the building that are providing some colour, as well as fresh flowers in the large teardrops, where we have also planted a cherry tree to mark our 10th anniversary.

Situated around the side of the building overlooking the river, the wellbeing space has picnic benches and seating, perfect for al fresco lunch breaks or timeout to bask in the warm weather. The space is already proving popular during the recent heatwave.

A mini allotment has also been created and staff and tenant businesses have been encouraged to ‘grow their own’ and ‘pick their own’ fruit and vegetables. We already have carrots, courgettes, lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot, French beans, plus gooseberries, blueberries and sunflowers growing.

Becoming more sustainable is a key aim for the 3M BIC, and to help save water we have also installed water butts that we use to water our allotment area and flowers that are connected to our water harvesting system.

To encourage sustainable travel, you may also have noticed that we now have secure bike lockers to accommodate several people in the building that cycle to work.

So next time you visit the centre, make sure you check out the wellbeing area and our fruit and veg plot.
