Meet 3M BIC business, Charlesworth Family Group Ltd – a company specialising in creating bespoke finance packages for property developers and small businesses, from bridging loans to development finance. Lindsay Jennings tells us more.
Tell us about Charlesworth and the team based at the 3M BIC.
The Charlesworth family have been in business in Huddersfield since 1928. Starting in the printing industry, they subsequently expanded this to include companies in bookbinding, typesetting, publishing and publishing services.
Following the sale of the printing company in 2010 and the publishing company in 2015, the Charlesworth Family Group was established. Initially formed as a vehicle for property investment, the company soon branched out into investing and providing finance and services for small businesses.
The team at the 3M: We (Simon, Lindsay, Helen and Richard) have worked for Charlesworth companies for over 20 years across several industries and countries and are keen to pass on the experience that we have gained to entrepreneurs, especially in the local area.
We are well aware that anybody at the start of their journey needs a helping hand and that is why, as well as providing finance, we also provide management and back-office services to the companies that we work with.
We know that an entrepreneur wants to concentrate on their products and ideas without being bogged down by accounting and legal obligations and so are happy to take that burden off their hands.
What projects are you currently working on?
We are currently working with the following local companies:
- Lords Brewing Co – a micro-brewery based in Golcar, Huddersfield. We have provided finance for equipment, invoice factoring, management accounting, FD and other admin services.
- Kitmapper – an events management company based in London with a Huddersfield born founder. We have provided investment, accounting and board services.
- Legend Times publishing group – a London based publisher. The founder was known to us from our past in publishing and we provide them with finance and accounting services.
