In January, Rob Woollin (NPL Huddersfield) attended a pilot event at Upper Batley High School which was aimed at allowing students to hear directly from employers about a range of jobs and supporting better informed careers choices.
On the day around 30 Year 10 Business Studies students arrived at school about an hour earlier than normal to participate in the event at which there were several employers and the students had the opportunity for 5-6 minutes per session to discuss their career aspirations and discuss career options before the boys move to the next table.
This kind of event/activity will be rolled-out across Leeds City Region and there are many imaginative ways to engage but each school has different requirements which is part of the fun.
Each Enterprise Advisor is matched to a school which suits their preference on geography to ensure they are convenient for work, home or commute.
The plan is that the programme be supported across the entire Leeds City Region and Rob is planning to support a school in Huddersfield on an on-going basis.
