The Institute of Educational & Social Equity (IESE), which came to the 3M BIC at the end of 2022, has appointed two new team members to accommodate recent business growth. As it launches a new EDI Fellowship and Institute Membership and sets it sights on further expansion.
Dr Christopher Jones joins as an Afro-American researcher and newly appointed Fellow and Programme Manager at the Institute. Christopher has extensive knowledge and experience in EDI in Higher Education. They have a PhD in Sociology and Social Policy at Durham University, where they researched Black and White student experience in Higher Education around race, racism and racial inclusion intersected with other protected characteristics.
Dr Jones also conducted a case study for ‘UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean’ to increase representation for underrepresented groups in England and executed preliminary thematic secondary data analysis of the Affluent Worker Study interviews archive from a cultural and intersectional lens (e.g., gender and race).
University of Huddersfield student, Jack Jackson, has also come on board as part of his placement year. He is the Marketing & Events Project Officer and will be with the Institute for a minimum of one year.
The Institute recently started a new programme, the EDI Fellowship. A benchmark multidimensional and instructional award for anyone working in Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in any organisational context. Its first cohort commenced on 29 September and is designed to bring coherence and integrity to the work of EDI professionals. As well as providing employers and businesses with confidence in the expertise of staff. Training includes, EDI Data Analytics, Change Management, Leading Change and Auding impact.
In response to demand, the Institute has also offered members of the public the opportunity to purchase membership. Membership costs £47.50 a year (£3.60 a month), and members have access to several benefits, including:

- Online access to its ‘Equity in Education & Society’ journal (SAGE)
- Invitation to its annual Fellows’ Roundtable (only available to members)
- 5% discounted rate at ‘Equity in Education & Society’ conferences
