This year’s European Researchers’ Night has been hailed another success, attracting more youngsters, parents and teachers, making it bigger and better than the previous year.
The University was one of the few centres in the UK to receive EU funding to host an event on European Researchers’ Night on 29 September, which takes place annually in hundreds of venues across Europe.
The event was titled “full STEAM ahead” – a reference to the fact that it featured research in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Over 2,000 pre-booked their attendance and at least 1,000 showed up on the night, meaning the campus was packed with over 3,000 visitors.
There were more than 50 workshops covering an immense variety of topics, ranging from synthesisers to super rats, computers to chemistry and dinosaurs to DNA.
On the night, the 3M BIC hosted Team HARE, the University’s Formula Student racing car and Team HAWK who will be representing the University in the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Challenge.
The design team also showcased our virtual reality technology which proved a hit with young people – they were queuing out of the door to get a turn!
