The University of Huddersfield and the 3M BIC recently secured the Huddersfield Innovation and Incubation Project (HIIP) award, which will see a significant investment in equipment and facilities at the 3M BIC, enhancing our unique offer of technological and business support to tenants, network members and regional industries.
Over the coming months, we will be installing some exciting new equipment which will affect all three floors of the Centre. Here’s a taster of what to expect:
- A dedicated additive manufacturing centre for metals including titanium and steel.
- An industrial X-ray CT unit to investigate part integrity, and a range of state-of-the-art imaging equipment to inspect manufactured surfaces, materials and biological samples, including living cells, using high performance optical, laser and electron microscopy.
- A dedicated 3D visualisation zone on the second floor covering both product presentations, reverse engineering and business data visualisation and a digital creativity area within the DOYYEC on the first floor. Both will have facilities for VR and eye tracking, among other specialist equipment.
- A fully equipped computer software training suite holding up to 20 trainees, aimed at technical, creative and simulation systems.
You may have noticed that we’ve just had our first piece of equipment installed, a professional polymer 3D printer, which will be based in the Atrium. This printer allows businesses to create prototypes to get them print ready when undertaking metal additive manufacture.
There may be some slight disruption while we get the equipment delivered and set up, so please bear with us, and apologise for any inconvenience. We will be speaking to those in due course that will be directly affected.
We will be hosting a lunchtime presentation and Q&A opportunity on 20 November for you to find out more information and when and how it may affect you.
This is a really exciting time for the 3M BIC, the University and regional industry, as well as of great benefit to your business. In the meantime, if you have any queries please feel free to chat to a member of the management team.
