A new centre designed to accelerate health innovation in West Yorkshire is already attracting leading health and wellbeing organisations ahead of its official launch in July.
The Health Business Innovation Centre (HBIC), based on the University of Huddersfield’s National Health Innovation Campus, has secured Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber as its anchor tenant. The move signals strong early confidence in the Campus and its ambition to support and scale regional innovation.
Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber is the NHS’s regional innovation arm, connecting healthcare, academia and industry to accelerate the development and adoption of new health technologies. Its move into the HBIC brings both credibility and momentum to the centre and demonstrates its appeal to organisations seeking high‑quality, specialist workspace with proximity to academic and clinical expertise.
The HBIC is designed to help organisations develop, test and scale new products and services that improve health outcomes. The centre offers flexible office and lab space, meeting and event space, a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Innovation Maker Space and access to a community of innovators.
HBIC is already on track to welcome additional tenants, form new partnerships and host a range of innovation‑focused events.
Commenting on the move, Richard Stubbs, CEO of Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, said: “We are thrilled to have moved into the Emily Siddon Building, part of the University’s National Health Innovation Campus. It creates perfect alignment with our mission to accelerate innovation in health and life sciences and I am really looking forward to generating new opportunities through our closer collaboration.”
Prof Tim Thornton, Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Huddersfield, added: “Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber joining us as our anchor tenant sets a really positive foundation for the new centre. Their move signals the start of a growing community here, with more office and lab space ready for others ahead of our official opening in July.
“The new Health Business Innovation Centre will play an important role in strengthening Huddersfield’s and West Yorkshire’s reputation as a place where health innovation thrives – helping local businesses grow, creating new opportunities and supporting our regional economy.”
Several brand-new offices and labs are available at the Health Business Innovation Centre, ideal for health, wellbeing and life sciences organisations that want to become part of a growing innovation community.
The Health Business Innovation Centre is the sister site to the award-winning 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC).
