Tell us about your career journey to 3M BIC:
After studying a BA at the University of Salford in Contemporary History and Politics and an MA at the University of Leeds in International Journalism, working at 3M BIC may not have been the obvious direction for my career. But after doing a journalism internship I realised that I needed a more creative outlet, this was when I stumbled upon the 3M BIC and the marketing assistant role on LinkedIn.
Describe a typical day at work:
The marketing assistant role is a very varied role, but most days the day will start with checking emails, planning out my tasks for the day, and then cracking on with the work. From planning and creating social media content, the monthly newsletter, writing blogs, and designing new marketing materials, my day can vary between these tasks and much more.
What keeps you motivated at work?
The fantastic team and ability to be creative is what keeps me motivated at work, especially the ability to bounce ideas off other people, while also being supported when needed and while I learn the ropes.
The most exciting thing about your job?
For me, the most exciting thing about my job as a Marketing Assistant is trying to create a successful social media content and watching the numbers. From impressions to likes, I find it all very exciting as it fuels me to push onwards.
The most challenging?
As I do not have a degree in marketing, everything is pretty new to me, so learning the ropes while working at the same time is the most challenging part of the job, but this should only get easier over time!
Time of the day you are most creative or inspired?
I always find I do my best work in the morning and the same goes for being creative, something about getting stuck straight in I find just works best for me.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I would love to continue to develop my digital marketing skills and eventually become a Social Media Manager for a cool and trendy business. As I am fascinated by all the different social media platforms and would love to push a business’s social media to new heights while also stretching my creative muscle.
Best piece of advice you’ve been given?
To always try, give it my best, and have a smile on my face while doing it.
Out of the office…?
I love to cook, play with my dogs, develop computer games, and hangout with friends when out of the office.
